The wellbeing effects of psychedelic and meditation retreats
Abstract
Both psychedelics use and meditation practice have been associated with improved wellbeing and changes in worldviews, and previous research suggests similarities between the two practices. In this research, we use a naturalistic study design in which we follow people who participate in psychedelic and meditation retreats. We examine short-term and long-term changes in psychosocial wellbeing and psychological ill-being before and after the participation in the retreats, and what mediates these changes. Moreover, we examine changes in other psychosocial variables previously linked with psychedelics use, namely trait spirituality, nature relatedness, social attitudes, personality, and values.
