Clinicians’ Attitudes and Opinions About Psychedelics in the SWANA Region: A Cross-Sectional Online Survey

OSFAug 24, 2026

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore clinicians’ views, opinions, and professional perspectives regarding psychedelics among practitioners in selected countries in the SWANA region. Interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies has increased internationally, yet there is limited empirical research on how clinicians in SWANA contexts perceive these substances, including their therapeutic potential, perceived risks, cultural acceptability, ethical concerns, and possible future role in mental health care. This study aims to address that gap by collecting survey data from clinicians including psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychotherapists/counsellors. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of regional perspectives, barriers, and areas of uncertainty, and may help inform future academic discussion, policy dialogue, and culturally sensitive research development. The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature and does not involve the administration of any substances, clinical decision-making, or patient-level data
