Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy: Paving Way for a New Approach to Treating Trauma in Law Enforcement

OSFApr 23, 2024

Abstract

This study seeks to understand the current views and perspectives held by law enforcement, military personnel, and veterans as compared to the general population on Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy (PAP) using an online survey. This study is specifically seeking opinions on two variations of PAP; ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy. Data will be collected from people across the U.S. Recruitment will take place through email list-serves, general posts (i.e., on researcher's timelines) on Facebook/Instagram, through university participant pools (e.g., SONA), and by using snowballing techniques. Consenting participants will be asked to complete an online questionnaire regarding their demographic characteristics, professional history within the military or law enforcement, attitudes towards psychedelics, and a knowledge survey about psychedelics both before and after receiving an educational piece written by the researchers regarding the use of ketamine and psilocybin within a therapeutic setting. Eligible participants will be over the age of 18.
