The Impact of State-Regulated Psilocybin Services on Pain in the OPEN Longitudinal Cohort
Abstract
There is a well-established literature on the comorbidity of chronic pain and mood disorders, particularly depression. These conditions are bidirectionally linked, with each exacerbating the severity and persistence of the other. Psilocybin has demonstrated promising effects on depressive symptoms in clinical trials, and is increasingly perceived in public discourse as beneficial for mental health. Given the overlap between pain and mood disorders, it is plausible that psilocybin may also influence pain. The purpose of this study is to assess whether psilocybin, delivered in state-regulated real-world settings, impacts pain.
