Longitudinal Impacts of Psilocybin-Assisted-Psychotherapy on Depression

OSFApr 24, 2023

Abstract

This study investigates the long-term impact of psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) on depression symptoms in individuals with major depressive disorder. The study will recruit 40 adults aged 18 years and older, diagnosed with major depressive disorder and who have failed to respond to at least one antidepressant medication in the past. Participants will receive two sessions of PAP therapy spaced one week apart, with a capsule dose of 30mg/70 kg body weight. Depression symptoms will be measured using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD) pre-treatment for a baseline, immediately post-treatment, and at 1, 2, and 4 years follow-up assessments. The researchers predict that participants exposed to PAP therapy will report fewer depressive symptoms in post-treatment assessments compared to baseline assessments, and those who take antidepressants post-treatment will report fewer depressive symptoms than those who do not take any antidepressants.
