Psychedelics as an Emerging Therapeutic Praxis: A Corpus-Based Perspective

OSFAug 22, 2024

Abstract

The revival of psychedelic research particularly focused on psilocybin, LSD, and MDMA have shown promising opportunities in mental health prevention and intervention, including in the realm of eating disorders (Calder et al., 2023). Online blogging has emerged as an avenue where individuals openly share their experiences about their use of psychedelics, including for eating-related issues. Analyzing the language used in these online communities can shed a light into how the intersection of psychedelics and eating disorders is conceptualized and expressed by those who engage in this type of discourse. This exploratory Computer-Assisted Text Analysis (CATA) study aims to investigate the differences in linguistic and psychological characteristics between online blogs discussing the use of psychedelics for eating-related issues, and a corpus of general, non-specific blog posts. By examining the usage rates of broad linguistic processes, psychological processes, and specialized semantic features across these two distinct content domains, the study seeks to uncover potential patterns and differences in how these complex and interrelated topics are described in the online blogging context.
