Does severity of treatment resistance predict response to treatment with psilocybin in patients with depression? A secondary data analysis of the PsiDeR trial
Abstract
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) refers to a depressive episode that does not improve after two or more standard antidepressant medications, affecting up to half of people with depression. Psilocybin, a natural tryptamine occurring in psilocybe mushrooms, has shown promise in treating a range of mental health conditions, including TRD. The Psilocybin in Depression Resistant to standard treatments (PsiDeR) trial was a two arm, double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial evaluating feasibility and safety of 25mg psilocybin versus placebo in adults with TRD. The aim of this secondary data analysis is to examine whether severity of treatment resistance is associated with response to treatment with psilocybin.
