An update on the efficacy of single and serial/multiple intravenous ketamine for bipolar depression: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract

Ketamine, a glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, has shown rapid antidepressant effects in treatment-resistant depression (TRD) as well as reducing after a single infusion suicidal ideation. Despite the relatively temporary benefit, results suggest that ketamine may play a role in treating treatment resistant bipolar depression (TRBD). We will conduct an updated systematic review and meta-analysis to appraise the current evidence from literature on the efficacy and tolerability of single compared to multiple infusion of ketamine in patients with bipolar depression.
