A prospective naturalistic study of psychedelic users
Abstract
Psychedelic research is expanding with recent studies showing that psychedelics may have significant benefit as a treatment for prevalent mental health conditions (Yaden et al., 2021). In addition to this increasing academic and clinical interest in psychedelics, there is also a marked increase in the proportion of individuals using psychedelics in naturalistic settings (Yockey et.al, 2020). The impacts of this unregulated use on self-representation, self-efficacy, motivation, attitudes and outcomes of psychedelic use are not well understood. This study aims to explore changes in self-representation, self-efficacy, motivation, attitudes and outcomes of psychedelic use in a prospective naturalistic study. These aims will be examined through comparison of changes among participants who have a psychedelic experience in a natural setting, with participants who have not had a psychedelic experience acting as a control.
