Are there differences in cognition between psychedelic users and non-users?
Abstract
A cross-sectional study comparing performance in online neuropsychological tests of executive functions in psychedelic users and non-users. In order to participant, participants must have either never used a classic psychedelic substance or have used psychedelic substances at least 25 times, but not in the previous 4 weeks. The criteria of at least 25 times was selected as previous research indicates that number approximately reflects the average use within psychedelics users in the general population (Palmer & Maynard, 2022). The study will recruit participants from links on advertisements placed on social media pages dedicated to psychedelic research. Neuropsychological test scores will be administered in a randomised order across participants. ANOVAs will be used with performance on neuropsychological tests as the dependent variable and whether the individual is a psychedelic user or non-user as the independent variable, including age, gender, education, and frequency of use of cocaine, alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, amphetamines, opioids, non-classic psychedelics, and other drugs as covariates.
