Abstract

Ayahuasca is a botanical decoction traditionally used in the Amazon basin, whose psychedelic effects have, in recent decades, drawn the attention of those seeking immersion in the indigenous cultures of the Amazon, individuals aiming to achieve spiritual transcendence, or those utilizing it as a tool for psycho-emotional healing. Undoubtedly, this rising interest has sparked scientific and healthcare-related curiosity, justifying the study of its physiological effects, as well as the possible risks it entails and its therapeutic potential. La ayahuasca es una decocción botánica ancestralmente empleada en la cuenca amazónica y cuyos efectos psicodélicos han provocado durante estas últimas décadas un foco de atracción para quienes buscan una inmersión en las culturas aborígenes del Amazonas, individuos que pretenden alcanzar una transcendencia espiritual o emplearla como herramienta de sanación psicoemocional. Indudablemente, este auge suscita un interés científico – sanitario que justifica el estudio de sus efectos fisiológicos, así como los riesgos que entraña y su potencial terapéutico.
