Psychological research on ayahuasca in Brazil: A scoping review
Abstract
This scoping review proposal is part of a master's research investigating the use of ayahuasca in urban contexts, with a focus on Indigenous leadership. Ayahuasca, a beverage of Amazonian origin, is known by various names and holds different cultural meanings, playing a central role in the rituals of peoples such as the Huni Kuin. The research examines the work of the Guardiões Huni Kuin group, which aims to connect ancestral knowledge with urban environments. The review seeks to analyze the scientific literature in the field of psychology on this topic and identify gaps in the dialogue between Indigenous and Western knowledge systems. Furthermore, studies will be mapped to understand which graduate programs and regions of the country are researching this subject, taking into account the temporal framework of the publications. The review also aims to provide insights for future research, contributing to the development of studies that expand the recognition of ayahuasca in both academic and popular contexts.
