Discussion spins in brain imaging studies on psychedelics
Abstract
In this research we will use Natural Language Processing (NLP) and other Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to automatically code the valence of scientific papers exploring brain correlates of use of psychedelic drugs: namely psilocybin and (es)ketamine. These two drugs have been both extensively studied with neuroimaging techniques such as MRI and PET. While for a long period the two drugs were considered and studied only as ricreative/abuse substances, since the last decade a growing interest for possible therapeutic use has been developed. We think that while the neuroimaging results would be pretty similar independently from the aim of the study, the discussion of the results and the frame of the research could be heavily biased depending on whether the paper is focused on possible harm or possible benefits from these substances.
