Psilocybin and Aging
Abstract
Heckers et al. showed lifespan extension aged mice treated with psilocybin and resultant media reports suggest that psychedelics may extend human life. We compared mortality among prominent psychedelics personalities (researchers and advocates who claimed psychedelics use) and biomedical (cancer and aging) researchers. Normalized to conditional life expectancy, psychedelic personalities did not outlive their biomedical peers, underscoring the need for rigorous mechanistic and epidemiological studies of the anti-aging properties of psychedelics.
