Acute Subjective Effects of MDMA-Assisted Therapy in Anorexia Nervosa and Associations with Changes in Eating Disorder Symptoms
Abstract
The purpose of this secondary analysis is to characterise acute subjective effects of MDMA-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) in adults with self-reported, clinically diagnosed anorexia nervosa (AN), and to explore whether these acute subjective effects are associated with subsequent changes in eating disorder (ED) symptoms over time. The primary objective is to describe self-reported acute subjective effects (inner peace, experiences of love, emotional breakthrough, and psychological insight), referring to participants’ experiences during and/or shortly after their MDMA-AT session(s), as retrospectively recalled at 1-week post-treatment (T1). Exploratory objectives are to examine associations between these acute subjective effects and changes in ED symptoms from baseline to 1-week post-treatment (T0→T1) and from baseline to 1-month follow-up (T0→T2). All findings will be preliminary and non-casual, intended to support signal detection and inform subsequent hypothesis-driven studies.
