Changes in Psychoemotional Processes Following MDMA-Assisted Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa

OSFNov 10, 2025

Abstract

The purpose of this retrospective, naturalistic observational cohort study is to investigate changes in psychoemotional processes following MDMA-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) among adults with anorexia nervosa (AN). The primary objective is to estimate within-person changes in self-relating processes (self-compassion and self-criticism) from baseline to 1-week post-treatment and at 1-month follow-up. The secondary objective is to estimate within-person changes in self-regulation processes (emotion dysregulation and experiential avoidance) across the same timepoints. Exploratory outcomes include within-person change in feeling loved. All findings will be considered preliminary and non-causal, intended to support signal detection and inform subsequent, hypothesis-driven clinical trials.
